An impossible digital artwork, made wearable

If you have ever wondered what a surreal digital rendering would look like on your wrist, D1 Milano has brought that concept to life. Launching on Kickstarter, The Impossible Watch is a collaboration with renowned 3D artist Peter Tarka. It takes a bold, seemingly unbuildable geometric design and transforms it into a highly functional, everyday timepiece that merges mechanical aesthetics with a custom digital movement.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Name and Creator D1 Milano x Peter Tarka The Impossible Watch by D1 Milano.

What It Is The Impossible Watch is a lightweight aluminum timepiece that translates a 3D digital artwork into a wearable format. It features a unique analog and digital display hybrid, utilizing rotating discs and an LCD screen to read the time.

KEY FEATURES

  • Playful Geometric Display The face of the watch features three rotating discs that indicate the hours, minutes, and seconds. Additionally, seven individual dots light up sequentially to show the current day of the week.

  • Secondary Digital Screen For quick and precise checks, a subtle digital LCD screen perfectly mirrors the current time and date alongside the rotating mechanical discs.

  • Lightweight Aluminum Build The case and bracelet are constructed entirely from lightweight aluminum. This cuts down the bulk usually associated with steel watches and allows for bold, anodized color finishes.

  • Premium Protection The face is protected by a scratch resistant sapphire crystal complete with a blue anti reflective coating, ensuring the complex dial remains highly visible under harsh lighting.

  • Everyday Durability Designed for regular use, the watch is equipped with a custom digital movement and boasts a water resistance rating of 5 ATM.

  • Renowned Artist Collaboration The visual language of the watch was completely directed by Peter Tarka, a worldwide known digital design artist recognized for his colorful, immersive 3D compositions.

REWARDS

  • Kickstarter Pricing Early backers can secure the watch for a pledge of 329 dollars. This allows supporters to get their hands on a highly customized collaborative piece at a crowdfunded rate.

  • Options The primary reward tier secures the base Impossible Watch in its bold anodized finish.

  • Delivery The Kickstarter campaign is fully funded and active through mid July of 2026. The creators will transition straight into the manufacturing phase, with global shipping updates provided to the backer community once production wraps up.

CONCEPT

The core concept is Digital Art Made Wearable. The creators at D1 Milano believe that horology does not have to be restricted to traditional, conservative designs. By partnering with a 3D artist, they set out to take a completely unrealistic visual idea and figure out the exact engineering required to make it a clear, readable, and functional object.

INSPIRATION

The project was inspired by the mesmerizing but physically impossible geometry often found in modern digital art. Peter Tarka is famous for building bold geometric worlds that only exist on a screen. The watchmaking team in Milan wanted to challenge themselves to pull one of his signature surreal designs out of the digital realm and place it onto a human wrist, proving that playful, impossible forms can actually be manufactured.
