If you have ever felt wrist pain after dragging a traditional mouse across your desk for hours, a UK based startup called NextAxis Design has introduced a radical alternative on Kickstarter. OVO is an egg shaped input device that abandons the classic sliding motion entirely. By turning your natural hand movements and balance into precise cursor control, it offers a completely new way to interact with your computer whether it is resting on your desk or held in the air.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Name and Creator. OVO Not a Mouse A New Way to Point by NextAxis Design.
What It Is. OVO is a wireless, balance based input device that replaces the traditional mouse. It uses advanced motion sensors to track the orientation of your hand in three dimensions, allowing you to move the cursor by tilting and rotating the device.
KEY FEATURES
Balance and Motion Control. Instead of sliding the device on a mouse pad, you tilt it to move the cursor, rotate it to adjust settings, and use gestures to perform actions. It naturally recenters itself in your hand.
Ergonomic Egg Design. The device weighs only 98 grams and is shaped like an egg to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. This design encourages a natural posture and helps reduce wrist strain during long hours of work.
Two Part Multitouch Shell. The outer shell features capacitive touch sensors. You can tap the top section for clicking and cursor control, while the bottom section is dedicated to swiping and scrolling.
Air Mouse Capability. Because it does not rely on an optical sensor tracking a flat surface, you can pick OVO up and use it in the air. This makes it a great tool for presentations or controlling media from the couch.
Universal Compatibility. It operates completely wirelessly via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi without requiring any special drivers. It is compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and even smart home systems.
Long Battery Life. The internal rechargeable battery provides up to 80 hours of continuous use on a single charge. It supports both USB type C and wireless charging for added convenience.
REWARDS
Kickstarter Pricing. Early backers can secure the OVO device at a super early bird price of 109 dollars, which is a significant discount from the planned 199 dollar retail price.
Options. The device is available in a glossy polymer finish with three color choices, which include black, white, and orange. The pledge includes the device, a charging cable, and a wireless charging pad.
Delivery. If the crowdfunding campaign is successful, the team expects to begin shipping the first units to backers in December 2026.
CONCEPT
The core concept is Natural Interaction. The creator of OVO believes that dragging a device across a flat surface feels like outdated technology from the 1980s. By engineering a device that responds to the dynamic balance and orientation of the human hand, they aim to create a computer interface that feels fluid, intuitive, and significantly less mechanical than a standard mouse.
INSPIRATION
The project was born out of personal frustration with the physical limitations and strain caused by traditional computer mice. The engineers at NextAxis Design started experimenting with alternative input methods that work through orientation rather than lateral movement. Inspired by motion controllers and the need for a more ergonomic workspace, they spent months refining prototypes to build a device that adapts to how the hand naturally moves rather than forcing the user to adapt to the hardware.
