Endless reactions and personalities, No cloud dependency and Fixed dialogue script... This time, we built a real desktop robot.

Have you ever wanted a smart, expressive robot companion on your desk that actually respects your privacy? While the market is flooded with voice assistants that constantly ping the cloud and require complex apps, EgoScience has taken a refreshingly different approach. Their latest Kickstarter, Cubie, is an interactive desktop robot designed to be your local, offline buddy. Operating almost entirely on its own internal hardware, it reacts to your environment, chats with you, and even fist bumps other robots without sending all your personal data to a remote server.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Name and Creator: Cubie: The Coolest Ever Robot on your desk by EgoScience.

What It Is: Cubie is an interactive, AI powered desktop companion robot. It is designed to be fully independent, offering dynamic reactions and personalities without relying on a constant cloud connection or a fixed dialogue script.

KEY FEATURES

  • Local Processing: Cubie is built to function entirely offline. It uses a local chip to process voice commands and handle conversations, meaning your interactions stay completely private and the robot will never "die" if a corporate server shuts down.

  • Sound Based Perception: To protect your privacy, the base unit intentionally excludes a built in camera. Instead, it perceives its surroundings through advanced audio recognition. It can identify ambient noises, your voice, the sound of keyboard typing, laughter, or even video game sounds to infer what you are doing and react appropriately.

  • Endless Personalities: The robot features an expressive digital face and physical movements, offering endless reactions and a unique personality that adapts to your environment.

  • Robot Socializing: If you place multiple Cubies together, they will recognize each other and interact. They can share fist bumps, exchange looks, and hold their own little conferences using specific audio cues.

  • Future Expansion: For users who do want visual capabilities, EgoScience is developing an optional external camera accessory that can give Cubie "eyes" when you explicitly choose to attach it.

REWARDS

  • Kickstarter Pricing: Backers can secure their Cubie at early bird rates, with the average pledge sitting around 210 dollars, offering a substantial discount off the eventual retail price.

  • Options: Early supporters gain access to VIP tiers that guarantee priority processing, meaning their orders will be shipped first.

  • Delivery: The campaign launched in April 2026 and was fully funded in just 12 minutes. The team is already in small batch production, with the first deliveries to backers estimated to begin in July and August 2026.

CONCEPT

The core concept is True Desktop Companionship. EgoScience realized that many modern smart home devices feel more like surveillance tools than actual buddies. By stripping away cloud dependency and focusing on local, audio based perception, they aim to create a delightful, standalone sci-fi sidekick that feels alive and reactive without compromising user privacy.

INSPIRATION

The project was heavily inspired by the beloved droids and robotic sidekicks found in classic science fiction movies. The creators wanted to bring that exact feeling to life on a standard work desk. Frustrated by smart devices that require rigid prompt words and constant internet connections, they engineered Cubie to be spontaneous and self sufficient, bringing a touch of futuristic magic and personality to your daily workflow.
