For years, gamers, creators, and AI enthusiasts have been forced into a frustrating compromise: either buy a massive, immovable desktop PC to get top-tier graphics performance, or settle for a portable laptop that chokes the moment you load up a heavy render or an intensive AAA game. Traditional external GPUs tried to bridge this gap, but they usually ended up being just as bulky as a small PC and required massive, ugly power bricks. The eGryphon changes the narrative entirely. By cramming next-generation Nvidia RTX 50-series graphics and a power supply into an astonishingly tiny 1.86-liter chassis, this campaign promises to deliver uncompromised, desktop-class performance that you can actually slip into your backpack alongside your laptop or gaming handheld.
Project Overview
Name and Creator: eGryphon: Desktop Class Portable eGPU Thunderbolt 5+OCuLink by eGryphon.
What It Is: The eGryphon is an ultra-compact, portable external GPU (eGPU) enclosure designed to massively boost the graphical and computational power of laptops, mini PCs, and handheld consoles. It features a built-in power supply and houses either an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 or an RTX 5060 Ti, utilizing ultra-fast modern connection standards.
Key Features
Next-Gen Graphics Options: Users can choose between two desktop-class setups: an RTX 5070 with 12GB of GDDR7 memory aimed at high-framerate gaming and ray tracing, or an RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB of GDDR7 memory specifically optimized for local AI workloads, boasting up to 988 AI TOPS.
Dual High-Speed Connectivity: The unit natively supports OCuLink 5.0 for near-desktop PCIe bandwidth and zero bottlenecking. It also supports Thunderbolt 5 via a unique detachable adapter that can cleverly double as an external NVMe SSD enclosure.
Built-In 400W Power Supply: In a major win for portability, the eGryphon integrates a 400W PSU directly into its tiny 1.86L aluminum chassis, meaning you don't have to lug around a separate, heavy power brick.
Portable Studio Hub: Beyond just processing graphics, the unit provides USB expansion ports and can drive up to four external displays simultaneously.
Quiet, Sustained Cooling: The internal thermal design is engineered to sustain peak GPU clock speeds during heavy gaming or prolonged AI inference tasks without sounding like a jet engine.
Rewards
Kickstarter Pricing: Backers can secure the Super Early Bird tiers at incredibly aggressive prices, roughly $438 (HK$3,420) for the 16GB RTX 5060 Ti model, and about $500 (HK$3,899) for the RTX 5070 version. This represents an estimated 40% discount off the planned retail price.
Options: Backers choose between the AI-focused 5060 Ti version or the gaming-focused 5070 version.
Delivery: The campaign has been a massive success, raising nearly $2 million, with fulfillment and global shipping currently estimated to begin in June 2026.
Concept
The core concept is Uncompromised Portability. The team at eGryphon believes that users shouldn't have to sacrifice mobility for power. By miniaturizing the eGPU footprint and integrating the power supply, they aim to provide a true "plug-and-play" desktop experience that seamlessly upgrades thin-and-light laptops or handhelds into powerhouse workstations anywhere you go.
Inspiration
The project was born out of the engineering team's own frustration with the current state of portable computing. As passionate gamers and AI developers, they watched the rapid rise of local Large Language Models (LLMs) and handheld PCs, yet noticed the eGPU market was stagnating with bulky enclosures and outdated connection protocols. They were inspired to engineer the exact tool they wanted on their own desks: a tiny, beautifully crafted parcel housing the absolute latest in Nvidia processing power and next-gen Thunderbolt/OCuLink bandwidth.
