Check your alcohol level with just a touch of your finger — a simple way to stay safe and make better decisions

Check Your Sobriety With a Single Touch: EthyloKey
We all know the rule: if you drink, don't drive. But for those moments in the "grey area", a glass of wine at dinner or a beer after work, knowing your actual status can be tricky. Traditional breathalyzers are bulky, awkward to use in public, and often require recalibration. Ethylowheel is looking to modernize responsible decision-making with EthyloKey, the world's first touch-based alcohol detector that fits right on your keychain.
Project Overview
Name and Creator: EthyloKey: World's First Touch-Based Alcohol Detector by ETHYLOKEY.
What It Is: EthyloKey is a pocket-sized alcohol detection device that uses next-generation sensor technology to measure alcohol presence through your skin. Instead of blowing into a tube, you simply place your finger on the sensor for a few seconds. It is designed to be discreet, hygienic, and socially frictionless, removing the stigma and hassle of traditional testing methods.
Status: The project is currently active and has significantly exceeded its initial funding goal. It is scheduled to end on February 7, 2026.
Key Features
Touch-Based Detection: The core innovation is its ability to detect "insensible perspiration"—tiny traces of ethanol vapor naturally released through your skin. By analyzing these vapors, it provides an indicative reading without the need for mouthpieces or forced air.
Instant Color Feedback: The device uses a simple LED ring to communicate results in under 20 seconds:
Green: Low/No alcohol detected.
Orange: Elevated levels (caution advised).
Red: High alcohol presence (do not drive).
Smart App Integration: While the device works alone, pairing it with the companion app unlocks a history log, safety reminders, and a "predictive alcohol curve" that helps you understand how your body processes drinks over time.
Wireless Charging: There are no ports or cables to break. The unit is fully sealed and charges via any standard Qi wireless pad. A single charge provides up to 100 tests, and the battery can hold a charge for weeks in sleep mode.
Ultra-Portable: Roughly the size of a car key fob, it is designed to live on your keychain so you never leave home without it.
Rewards
Kickstarter Pricing:
Super Early Bird: Backers can secure an EthyloKey for approximately €119 (roughly $125), a significant discount off the future retail price.
Duo Packs: Options are available for couples or families to buy two units at a reduced rate.
Colors: Available in finishes like Space Grey and Rose Gold to match modern tech aesthetics.
Delivery: Shipping is estimated to begin in June 2026.
Concept
The core concept is "Frictionless Prevention." The creators believe that people want to be responsible, but the tools available (breathalyzers) are too embarrassing or inconvenient to use in a bar or restaurant. By making the test as simple as unlocking your phone, just a touch, EthyloKey aims to turn alcohol monitoring into a quick, private habit rather than a public spectacle.
Inspiration
The project was inspired by the team's background in automotive safety sensors. Ethylowheel (the parent company) originally developed this touch-sensor technology for steering wheels to prevent drunk driving at the source. Recognizing that not everyone can buy a new car to get this safety feature, they miniaturized the tech into a personal carry device, democratizing access to life-saving awareness.
