If you rely on external keyboards, Mac desktops, or Linux machines and are tired of typing your password multiple times a day, Super Dog has engineered a seamless solution. Launching on Kickstarter, immurok is a keychain-sized wireless fingerprint authentication key. By combining Bluetooth LE connectivity with open-source software, it allows you to unlock your screen, approve terminal commands, and secure your SSH keys without ever needing to find a USB port.

What It Is immurok is a compact, wireless Bluetooth (BLE) fingerprint authentication device. Powered by a RISC-V microcontroller, it replaces repetitive password prompts on macOS, Linux, and Windows machines for everything from screen unlocks to privilege escalation, keeping all your biometric data securely offline.


KEY FEATURES

  • Universal Wireless Auth It connects as a bonded Bluetooth device, allowing it to sit on your desk or in your pocket while seamlessly authenticating logins without needing a physical USB connection.

  • On-Device Matching Your fingerprint template is enrolled and matched directly on the key itself. The biometric data never travels over Bluetooth, never lands on your hard drive, and is never sent to the cloud.

  • Deep System Integration Through custom PAM (Pluggable Authentication Module) integrations, one touch can unlock your screen, approve sudo and system privilege prompts, or sign SSH commits.

  • Dual Host Switching The key can bond to two different computers simultaneously. You can seamlessly switch which machine it authenticates for simply by using a different enrolled finger.

  • Extensive Secure Storage Beyond fingerprints, the device can store up to 128 TOTP secrets, 50 API keys, and up to 32 SSH private keys.

  • AI Command Gating With the rise of AI coding assistants, immurok acts as a physical hardware gate, requiring your fingerprint before allowing an AI agent to execute high-risk commands.

  • Open Source Framework The hardware design, macOS app, Linux CLI/TUI app, and PAM modules are fully open source and auditable, with the firmware set to be open-sourced as well.

CONCEPT

The core concept is Unbound Biometric Security. The creators believe that robust, hardware-based authentication should not be restricted to specific laptop models or require giving up your favorite mechanical keyboard. By engineering a device that brings the convenience of a smartphone's fingerprint scanner to any desktop or terminal workflow, they aim to eliminate the friction of typing passwords without sacrificing security.


INSPIRATION

The project was inspired by the limitations of current security hardware. While Apple's Touch ID is excellent, it is restricted to proprietary keyboards and MacBooks, leaving Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and Linux users in the cold. Additionally, while YubiKeys handle secret storage perfectly, they require physical USB ports and often do not streamline basic screen unlocks or sudo prompts. The team wanted to bridge this gap, building an open-source wireless key that handles all of the above, while also anticipating the new need to physically authorize commands generated by modern AI coding agents.
