A 1,400+ page Space Opera trilogy for D&D. Blast off to the stars, explore the galaxy, and chart your own cosmic destiny.

If you have ever wanted to trade your swords and sorcery for blasters and starships in your tabletop roleplaying campaigns, Legends of Avantris has created the ultimate expansion. Launching on Kickstarter, Neon Odyssey transforms the familiar mechanics of Dungeons and Dragons into a sprawling, neon soaked sci-fi universe. By introducing entirely new classes, playable species, and rules for mech combat, it allows adventuring parties to explore the galaxy without needing to learn a completely new game system.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Name and Creator. Neon Odyssey Space Opera in D&D by Legends of Avantris.

What It Is. A massive 1,400 plus page space opera trilogy setting guide and rules expansion for the fifth edition of Dungeons and Dragons. It provides players and game masters with a vast futuristic universe filled with cybernetics, starships, and interstellar mystery.

KEY FEATURES

  • Massive Trilogy Format. The project spans three distinct books. These include the Outrunner Handbook, the Cosmic Codex, and the Overdrive Expansion, which provide everything from character creation rules to huge galaxy settings.

  • Extensive Character Options. The expansion introduces 42 brand new playable species and 52 unique subclasses. It also features an entirely new class called the Machinist, which was designed by industry veteran Dan Dillon.

  • Sci-Fi Mechanics. The books feature dedicated rules for high octane starfighter battles, mech combat, vehicle customization, and hacking. This fully adapts the core fantasy system to a futuristic setting.

  • Mission Based Framework. Rather than providing a linear adventure module, the game gives game masters flexible missions and a fully fleshed out setting in the Stardust Rhapsody galaxy. This framework equips them with the tools to craft their own customizable space opera stories.

  • Standalone Playability. While perfectly compatible with the core fifth edition books, Neon Odyssey is designed using the free basic rules. This means you can play the game using just this trilogy and the publicly available free ruleset.

  • Human Made Art. The Avantris team made a strict commitment to ensure that every piece of art, music, and writing in the project was created by human artists, with absolutely zero generative artificial intelligence used.

REWARDS

  • Kickstarter Pricing. Early backers can secure the physical books and digital PDF copies at a discount compared to the planned retail prices. Early supporters also unlock exclusive perks like free custom dice sets.

  • Options. The campaign offers a variety of pledge tiers. Backers can choose anything from digital only bundles to premium deluxe box sets filled with tactical maps, custom dice, and physical accessories.

  • Delivery. Global fulfillment for the completed physical project is estimated to begin in late 2027.

CONCEPT

The core concept is Seamless Sci-Fi Transition. Legends of Avantris believes that the familiar and beloved mechanics of the world's most popular roleplaying game can be perfectly adapted to tell thrilling sci-fi stories. By heavily modifying the rules to support blasters, mechs, and interstellar travel, they aim to give tabletop groups a rich and accessible bridge into the space opera genre without the friction of learning an entirely new ruleset.

INSPIRATION

The project was heavily inspired by the team's love for classic sci-fi universes, synthwave aesthetics, and the success of their actual play streaming shows. After developing their hit folk horror expansion, the Avantris crew spent over two years secretly developing this new universe under the codename Project Vaportrail. Inspired by a desire to bring the high energy vibes of their own Stardust Rhapsody campaign to the public, they set out to build the most comprehensive third party sci-fi toolkit ever created for the fifth edition.
