The Power Sander for Your Palm: NeoSander

Anyone who builds models, 3D prints, or crafts jewelry knows the pain of the "last 10%." You spend hours printing or shaping a piece, only to spend just as long hand-sanding nubs and layer lines with a tiny strip of sandpaper. It’s tedious, cramping work. HOZO Design is automating the agony with the NeoSander, a cordless, palm-sized tool that brings the power of an electric sander to the tiniest details of your workbench.

Project Overview

Name and Creator: NeoSander: Mini Electric Reciprocating Detail Sander by HOZO Design.

What It Is: The NeoSander is a precision electric tool designed specifically for intricate finishing work. Unlike rotary tools that spin (and often gouge plastic), this uses a linear reciprocating motor to move the sanding head back and forth—just like hand sanding, but at 13,000 strokes per minute. It is cordless, features a solid aluminum body, and even doubles as a micro-saw for trimming parts.

Status: The project is currently active on Kickstarter.

Key Features

Linear Reciprocating Motion: Instead of spinning, the head vibrates back and forth in a straight line. This mimics the natural motion of hand sanding, which prevents the "swirl marks" and melting common with rotary Dremel-style tools.

Smart Pressure & Speed: The device features a variable stroke length (0.6mm to 1.8mm) and stepless speed control. Whether you are gently polishing a curved surface or aggressively removing a support structure, you can dial in exactly the amount of movement you need.

8-in-1 Magnetic Heads: It comes with eight distinctive sanding heads (including flat, arc, corner, and cylindrical shapes) that snap on magnetically. This allows you to reach into deep crevices or sand sharp 90-degree corners without changing tools.

Anti-Vibration Tech: A counterweight system inside the handle moves in opposition to the sanding head, reducing hand vibration by up to 85%. This ensures that the energy goes into the workpiece, not your wrist.

Sanding & Sawing Mode: By swapping the sanding head for a blade, the NeoSander transforms into a mini reciprocating saw. It can easily trim plastic sprues, wood dowels, or modify 3D prints with a specialized "double-tooth" blade designed to prevent binding.

Rewards

Kickstarter Pricing: Backers can pledge for the "Neo Basic" or "Neo Pro" kits, with prices starting around $69—a significant discount from the planned retail price.

Options: The "Premium Kit" includes the full array of 8 sanding heads, a charging dock, and a carrying case. There are also options to add extra packs of custom-shaped sandpaper.

Delivery: HOZO Design is a veteran Kickstarter creator with multiple successful campaigns; shipping for the NeoSander is estimated to begin in June 2026.

Concept

The core concept is "The Evolved Maker." HOZO believes that modern creators—who use high-tech 3D printers and laser cutters—shouldn't be stuck using primitive folded sandpaper for finishing. They aim to bridge the gap between digital fabrication and hand-finishing, making the cleanup process as advanced as the creation process.

Inspiration

The NeoSander was born from the community's feedback on HOZO's previous tools. Makers loved their precision measuring instruments but constantly complained about the physical toll of sanding detailed models. The team realized that while heavy-duty power sanders existed for construction, there was no "power tool" equivalent for the delicate, fingertip-scale work required by modelers and miniaturists.
