A production-ready full carbon fiber electric hydrofoil engineered for precision, performance and control - now ready to ship.

If you have ever wanted to experience the thrill of flying above the water but were put off by the massive price tags of traditional eFoils, PLX Devices has engineered a disruptive solution. Launching on Kickstarter, the XFoil Apex Gen 4 is a production-ready, full carbon fiber electric hydrofoil. By replacing passive, static wings with active dynamic stabilization and utilizing a direct-to-consumer model, it delivers a generational leap in marine technology at a fraction of the cost of legacy brands.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Name and Creator XFoil Apex Flight Ready: The Future of Electric Hydrofoiling by PLX Devices.
What It Is The XFoil Apex Gen 4 is a high-performance electric hydrofoil board. Unlike traditional eFoils that rely on fixed wings, it utilizes proprietary dynamic stabilization technology to actively adjust to the water and the rider, making it incredibly stable for beginners and razor-sharp for advanced carvers.
KEY FEATURES
Thrust Driven Stabilization The board features predictive stabilization that makes intelligent, active adjustments beneath the waterline. It continuously neutralizes pitch variations as you accelerate or decelerate, keeping the flight incredibly stable even through turbulent chop.
Dynamic Wing System (AWS) Moving away from passive fixed wings, the active moving surfaces of the AWS unlock a 25 percent increase in efficiency. This allows for up to 30 minutes of longer ride time and over 7 miles of distance on a single charge.
Silent Direct-Drive Motor The propulsion system throws out noisy planetary gearboxes in favor of a direct-drive architecture. With zero gears and zero friction, it delivers immediate, virtually silent thrust while requiring zero maintenance.
Handcrafted Carbon Composite The hull is meticulously crafted from carbon fiber and fiberglass, delivering up to five times the structural strength of steel at a fraction of the weight, built specifically to survive brutal ocean saltwater environments.
High-Voltage Architecture Operating on an industry-leading 16S architecture, the system reaches a peak 67.2V. This massive electrical headroom yields more torque and increased efficiency while keeping operating temperatures radically low.
Nano Tactile Command Remote Weighing just 191 grams, the IP68 fully sealed wireless remote is the smallest in the industry. It features a hyper-responsive magnetic trigger and naturally floats if dropped in the water.
Aerospace-Grade Defense Safety features include clear inspection windows for instant water-intrusion checks, dual-layer battery isolation, active thermal defense, and an automatic kill-switch.
REWARDS
Kickstarter Pricing Because PLX Devices is utilizing a direct-to-consumer model, they bypass traditional dealer markups. Early backers can secure the XFoil Apex Gen 4 starting at $4,999, which is approximately 40 percent off standard legacy retail pricing.
Options Supporters are pledging for the complete Flight Ready Apex Gen 4 system.
Delivery Unlike many crowdfunding campaigns, the Apex Gen 4 is not an unfunded concept. Engineering is complete, production tooling is established, and the boards are already manufactured and in stock. The creators plan to begin fulfillment immediately after the campaign ends.
CONCEPT
The core concept is Disrupting the Legacy Marine Market. The creators at PLX Devices believe that the traditional eFoil industry has relied too long on legacy dealer networks and heavy markups to sell passive, outdated wing technology. By engineering an actively stabilized board and shipping it directly to riders, they aim to make high-performance electric hydrofoiling more accessible and technologically advanced.
INSPIRATION
The project is the culmination of five years of intense R&D and over 2,000 test iterations. PLX Devices, a veteran Silicon Valley hardware manufacturer with 35 successful crowdfunding campaigns under their belt, wanted to celebrate their biggest milestone yet. They returned to Kickstarter to offer their loyal community direct-from-factory pricing on this fully realized, production-ready platform before expanding it out to standard retail channels.
