Join the revolution of multi color 3D printing

A significant pain point for 3D printing enthusiasts has always been the inherent limitations of single-color prints and the wasteful, time-consuming process of achieving multiple colors. Traditional methods often involve cumbersome purge towers that consume vast amounts of filament or require manual filament swaps, stifling creativity and increasing costs. Imagine a 3D printer that not only eliminates these frustrations but also redefines speed, precision, and multi-color capability, allowing you to bring your most vibrant and complex designs to life with unprecedented ease and efficiency. YUMI 3D Printer, now live on Kickstarter, is poised to revolutionize the desktop 3D printing landscape.
Project Overview
Name and Creator: YUMI 3D Printer: The Faster Multicolor Printer in the Galaxy by Nicolas.
What It Is: The YUMI 3D Printer is a high-speed, modular 3D printer focused on delivering efficient and clean multi-color printing. It features a unique YUMI Material System (YMS) that supports up to 12 independent colors without purge towers, minimal waste, and rapid color switching. Powered by Klipper firmware, it offers ultra-fast motion control and comes in three build sizes.
Key Features
Ultra-Fast and High-Performance Printing: The YUMI printer boasts impressive speeds of up to 700 mm/s with accelerations up to 20,000 mm/s². The heated bed reaches 100°C in seconds, significantly reducing start-up times. These high speeds are primarily utilized for non-printing movements during color changes, drastically cutting down overall multi-color print times.
Modular Multi-Color System (YMS): The revolutionary YUMI Material System (YMS) is a fully modular, independent filament system. It scales from 1 to 12 independent modules, with each module handling one filament spool. This design ensures no tangling, no waiting, and no switching delays, offering true color freedom.
Zero Purge Towers and Minimal Waste: Filament is cut directly near the nozzle, requiring only 10 cm of retraction to switch colors. Purged material is automatically ejected, eliminating the need for wasteful purge towers and significantly reducing filament waste.
Two Swappable Print Heads: The YUMI offers two interchangeable print heads for full material compatibility:
ChromaX12: Designed for complex multi-color prints, heating up to 240°C.
High-Flow DirectDrive: For high-temperature and technical filaments, reaching up to 310°C, covering materials from PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU to engineering-grade materials.
Smart Interface and Remote Access: Control your printer using the built-in 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen or manage prints remotely via the YUMI | Lab mobile app. It includes built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with optional 5 GHz support.
Open and Modular by Design: Powered by open-source Klipper firmware, the YUMI is designed for easy upgrades, experimentation, and limitless creation.
Vibration Compensation and Pressure Advance: Includes a built-in ADXL sensor for Input Shaper and native support for Pressure Advance, resulting in faster, cleaner, and sharper prints, especially on corners and curves.
Scalable Build Volumes: Available in three different build sizes to suit various project needs: C235 (235x235x270 mm), C335 (335x335x400 mm), and C435 (435x435x500 mm).
Expandable Storage: Comes with 16 GB internal memory, expandable to 32 GB, and is fully compatible with OrcaSlicer and all major open-source slicers.

The Idea
Concept: YUMI's vision is to make multi-color 3D printing truly clean, fast, and accessible to everyone. The core concept revolves around eliminating the common pain points of traditional multi-color printing, such as purge towers, excessive waste, and slow color changes. By developing a modular, independent filament system (YMS) and integrating high-speed Klipper firmware, YUMI aims to provide a seamless and efficient multi-color 3D printing experience.
Inspiration: The project was born from a realization in early 2024: the existing solutions for multi-color 3D printing were either inefficient or unaffordable. YUMI set out with six core goals: reduce filament waste, eliminate purge towers, simplify 3D color painting, speed up multi-color print times, support up to 12 colors, and make multi-color printing truly affordable. This ambition shaped every design decision, drawing on experience from their founder, Nicolas Michaut, who is also a founder of Lychee Slicer. Their commitment is to revolutionize the industry by offering a solution that allows users to create with pure color freedom, without the traditional compromises.
